Grove City, Pa. - On Jan 3, 2026, with her daughter at her side, Stasia L. Reeher, age 98, of Grove City, stepped peacefully into the presence of Jesus.
Stasia was born Stanislawa Lillian Lewinowna in Wilno, Poland on June 29, 1927, to Vladimir and Helena Lewinowna. She married Robert W. Reeher on Feb. 28, 1969, and they moved to Grove City in 1970.
In the words of her great-granddaughter, Ashley Howard: "It's hard to put into words how much history she carried in her almost one hundred years of life.
She lived many lives... a small Polish schoolgirl [who, having been seized by Nazi soldiers from her home during World War II, was transported to a German labor camp where she remained until she was liberated by American soldiers under the leadership of Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower in April 1945. Because she spoke five languages fluently, she became a valued interpreter for the Americans.]
In July of 1946, she immigrated to America [sailing into New York harbor she set foot on Ellis Island and never again saw her home or family. On Sept. 4, 1952, she raised her hand to become an American citizen, which she said, "was the proudest day in my life".]
She went on to become a high-fashion professional model and a budding Hollywood actress [which she gave up in order to serve as a military wife], a friend to Elvis Presley, a wife, a mother, a Nana, Great-Nana, and Great-Great Nana.
She lived through atrocities and moments in history that most of us can't even imagine — and somehow, she never stopped believing in love or the power of prayer.
One of the things I'll always remember is how she kept her home filled with photos. They were everywhere. And every day, she would pray over every single member of our family. That's how she loved: big, fierce, and constant. She worried deeply too. She held our family in her heart and in her prayers always.
Though all my life she lived on the East Coast [and I on the West Coast], distance never weakened her presence. I don't think she ever knew or understood how much her story impacted me and helped me to believe in what I'm capable of. The kind of strength she carried can't be taught — it's forged, lived, and passed down. [On Jan. 3, 2026] the world lost a force to be reckoned with, and heaven gained the sweetest angel."
Stasia is predeceased by her husband, Robert; her daughter Susy Swircz of Montreal; and her daughter, Betty "Lolly" Cavaliere of Grove City.
She is survived by her daughter Lillian and husband Glenn "Will" Williams of Maine; grandchildren: Buffy McCormack of Texas, Jeffrey St. John Williams of Maine, Stasia and husband Chad Houp of Maine, Kimberly and husband Billy Woolstenhulme of Oregon, Christopher Swircz of Montreal, and George Swircz of Ontario; great-grandchildren: Ashley Howard, Alysha Gibbs, Ben Williams, Kayla Descoteaux, Megan Boss, Kalynn Brown, Samantha Brown, Michelle Brown, and Lee Montgomery; she also has 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Stasia especially cherished the faithfulness of two very dear friends, Jennifer Covert and Patty Polonchak. Her family thanks them for all they did for her, especially during her final hours.
Stasia worked as a volunteer for the Salvation Army in Grove City for many years. As a long-time member of the American Legion Auxiliary, she always considered it an honor to contribute time on Memorial Day to helping honor our great veterans and their families by giving out poppies and collecting donations in support of them.
In lieu of flowers, her family requests memorial donations be made to the American Legion Poppy Drive or to Tunnel to Towers t2t.org.
